Our Story
Born from a Passion for Japanese Food
Japonaise Kitchen was born from a deep love of Japanese cuisine and a desire to share it with the Byron Bay community. Tucked away on Lawson Street, our small but spirited restaurant is run entirely by a Japanese team — chefs who grew up cooking these dishes, eating them with family, and refining them over a lifetime. That’s the difference you taste in every bowl.
From the slow-simmered ramen broth to the hand-rolled sushi, everything is made from scratch the way it’s done in Japan. The walls are lined with Japanese advertising signs, paper lanterns hang from the ceiling, and the chatter between our staff is in Japanese — because here, the culture is just as important as the food.
